June 21st Creative Class - Sunprinting with Botanicals
2:00 to 4:00pm, Hosted by Tree of Liminality at the HeartHouse in Cedar Rapids Iowa
In this class you’ll learn how to make cyanotypes, a kind of sunprint named for its striking blue color.
It works by placing objects, such as plant materials, onto light-sensitive paper and exposing it to bright sunlight. After rinsing the paper in water, places where objects were blocking the light will be white on a background of blue.
You’ll need to bring your own plant materials to the class. Leaves and pressed flowers work well— anything that will lay relatively flat under a piece of glass. You can also bring other objects to experiment with, such as feathers or lace.
By the end of the class, you’ll leave with 6 cyanotype prints that can be framed as works of art or used in any paper craft.
