October 18th Creative Class - Papermaking with PFLAG!

$0.00

2:00-4:00 pm, Hosted by Tree of Liminality at the Heart House in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

We’re pleased to announce that we’re hosting a Creative Class on Handmade Paper with friends of PFLAG.

PFLAG is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

Details below. Members of the general public are welcome to register provided they support PFLAG’s mission.

We’re committed to being a safe space for all people to learn and grow creatively.

***

In this class you’ll learn how to create your own paper using recycled paper pulp with a mould and deckle technique.

Papermaking is fun, easy to learn, and a great way to transform your scrap paper into something beautiful. Handmade paper can be used for writing, drawing, crafting, and especially correspondence where you want a personalized touch.

We’ll provide everything you need and take you step by step through the process, from making slurry to pulling your sheets, to pressing and drying. You’ll also have the opportunity to experiment with embedded materials, such as flowers and seeds.

By the end of the class, you’ll have 6 or more sheets of handmade paper made by you. Please note that paper may not be dry by the end of class time, but can be picked up the following week or snail mailed to you.

If you’re interested in taking a future class, but find ticket price to be a barrier, there are a limited number of spots available for volunteer assistants. Please contact Missa on your platform of choice for more information, or stop by the studio/shop at 1301 3rd Street SE.

Missa has taught 2D art and papermaking to a wide range of people, from casual art clubs to college classes. She is the owner of Tree of Liminality and cofounder of Farmhouse Art Collective.
